The Wearable Proximity Detector by PROXIMIview Technologies is an assistive device for the visuallyimpaired to aid the user in avoiding objects/obstacles. The device will utilize an array of ultrasonic sensors which will be mounted on sunglasses to inform the user when an object is a certain distance away. The feedback unit will feature both tactile and auditory elements; a vibrating unit will be used to alert the user of the relative proximity of the object – the closer the user gets to the object, the more frequent the vibrations. Auditory feedback will be composed of messages informing the user about the distance of the object, as well as some directional messages.
