Jean Swanson has been a city councillor in Vancouver since 2018, when she was elected through COPE (The Coalition of Progressive Electors).Jean is an anti-poverty activist who has been working with Downtown Eastside organizations for almost 50 years, and was awarded the Order of Canada in 2017. She is the author of the book, Poor Bashing: The Politics of Exclusion. Jean recently announced her intention to run for re-election in 2022.
