She and Am Johal are in conversation about the urgent need to build social solidarity around collective disaster, honing in on how people are in relationship with their community at the hyperlocal level.As the president and CEO of the Canadian Urban Institute, Mary’s recent work is concentrated on urban planning in disaster times, building social infrastructure, and helping cities recover and re-emerge from COVID-19 more connected, more resilient, and more empowered to effect change locally.
