Abstract
The aim of this report is to outline a high-level framework to provide information that can support classification of the utility of different bicycle parking facilities for purposes of informing funding decisions on bicycle parking and supporting research on bicycle parking facilities in Canada. The guidance in this framework is based on a review of practice guidelines, grey literature, academic Canadian and international academic research, and input from key informants knowledgeable about bicycle parking and related topics.
The information contained in this document is not intended to provide design or performance requirements for bicycle parking facilities. Engineering and performance guidelines for bicycle parking facilities, such as specific structure of bicycle racks, materials, and dimensions are available in various manuals and guidance documents from professional associations and governments. The information contained in this report is focused on public bicycle parking, though some considerations may also be applicable to private bicycle parking.
