Abstract
The aim for this report is to provide a supplement to the Can-BICS classification system that clarifies how the classification system applies
in small towns, rural, and remote communities;
in different seasons, with considerations for winter maintenance and lighting; and
to shared cycling facilities during peak travel times and in scenarios with a diverse mix of users, including significant volumes of micro-mobility modes, and high volumes.
In our view, Can-BICS remains the recommended classification for cycling facilities, and this supplement will provide guidance around expanding Can-BICS to consider diverse geographic settings, seasonality, and user mix and volume on shared cycling facilities.
