Abstract
The Hy-dar system uses Ground-Penetrating Radar (GPR) to detect how far the level of the water table is below the Earth's surface, recording its measurements over time. The system is portable, self-powered by mounted solar panels, and robust enough to be left outdoors unattended for extended periods of time (ex: a year), making it ideal for use in remote wilderness locations and environmentally sensitive areas.This design is particularly advantageous for researchers and academic users. Groundwater level measurements are a useful metric in a variety of study areas, such as tracking climate-related changes, droughts/floods, soil stability, agriculture, and Environmental Flow Needs (EFN). Further, our solution does not require the drilling, licensing, or specialized equipment some methods of water table measurement rely on, reducing cost and logistical concerns.
Description
Undergraduate Engineering Science students are required to complete a group-based, two-course capstone sequence: ENSC 405W and ENSC 440. Groups form company structures and create an innovative product that potentially acts as a solution to a real-life problem. This collection archives the following assignments: proposal, design specifications, requirements specifications, and proof of concept.
