Exploratory visualization for the Women's Print History Project

I designed, developed, and studied an exploratory visualization for the Women's Print History Project. The women's print history project is a manually collected dataset that spans the years from 1700 to 1850, collecting publications in which women have been involved through any of the publication roles. My visualization research, done in consultation with a domain expert, is part of an ongoing trend to support humanities in visualization research. I designed and developed an exploratory visualization and then through a user study involving —data experts and general users—I investigated the tool's effectiveness in meeting the experts' research needs and its overall user experience. My contribution lies in understanding the domain needs and tasks, and in designing, and implementing a tool in response to these needs of the data experts.
