Abstract
Victim to a curse, I had to perform actions that were not my own in order to access the technologies of spiritual alignment embedded in collectively-developed rituals. I followed instructions. At first, the actions felt meaningless. Without context and disillusioned, but pulled by the strong force left by a spiritual vacuum at the core of the contemporary neoliberal immaterial labourer (being me), I returned to them and repeated them and repeated them until they meant something. The meaning was constructed through the performance and modifications of rituals with a 1993 Honda del Sol convertible. I used the project-car as the object to return to and perform the rituals of modification through, producing a media installation for the gallery and a live exorcism performance with the vehicle. A complex aesthetic experience embedded within the symbolic misery of the market is explored through a durational relationship with the unresolved, continually transforming project-car.
