Abstract
Often times, situations arise during a hockey game where the referee has to put the game on hold for the review of a play. "Was that really a goal?" Many times during the season fans must wait through a long review process while the NHL officials determine whether or not a puck has crossed the goal line. This lengthy process not only takes away from the excitement of the game but more importantly causes frustration among fans and players with inconsistent calls.Ricochet Systems is devoted to developing a system which can reduce the number of these lengthy delays significantly. Our goal is to develop a puck tracking system which employs ultrasonic technology complemented with acceleration measurements of the puck to precisely determine its position.
