Abstract
British Columbia, in its beauty and terrains, can pose a danger when it comes to rescue operations. The lives of the individuals and the safety of the rescue team are very important. The time spent trying to figure out a situation before acting can be long and this is mainly due to environmental factors.Searcue is a system designed to help improve search and rescue efforts. Searcue enables both autonomous and manual flight using an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV). The main components of the UAV system include an onboard microcontroller with sensors that help control flight and a GPS that enables sending of information from a particular location to a server. With a camera mounted on the UAV, we are able to collect videos in a particular search area and process them.
