Abstract
Is there an art to reinventing home in the upheaval of displacement? This presentation offers a feast of poetic narratives on how communities in transition are creating new spaces of belonging – against all odds. In considering the multiple meanings of home in this contemporary global culture, we ask who is making room for whom when frictions from forced migration play out in Vancouver neighbourhoods and across international borders. Arts-based approaches that are unsettling the usual home fronts will be highlighted when diverse worldviews unexpectedly converge and collide.
