Abstract
Cultural data crunchers discussed their craft. This panel discussion features Salon’s Andrew Leonard, CBC Music’s Managing Editor Jonas Woost, and Jentery Sayers, Assistant Professor of English and Director of the Maker Lab in the Humanities. Moderated by The Globe and Mail’s Marsha Lederman. In the data age, every book you read, TV show you watch and movie you see feeds into the spreadsheets of companies such as Netflix and Amazon. Their data scientists “know” what makes a hit and have started creating programming like House of Cards based on the data metrics they think are important.
