Abstract
This report assesses demand-side management strategies for water consumption in Whistler, British Columbia. At 575L/capita/day, Whistler’s per capita water consumption is currently well over the Canadian average for municipalities of its size and well above the municipality’s stated goal of 425L/capita/day. Water conservation strategies used in other Canadian municipalities are of limited applicability to Whistler because it is a resort municipality with unique socio-economic characteristics. This study reviews water conservation strategies that have been implemented elsewhere (in other report communities where possible), and assesses the viability of pricing options that, if implemented, would help to encourage water conservation in Whistler.
